Bird sounds blast out to lure swift
Updated on 08 July 2009
A borough council is attempting to attract a new breed of high flyers - in the shape of the swift.
Islington in central London is playing the sounds of the swift through a speaker installed on the roof of its municipal offices in order to attract the birds to surrounding nest boxes.
The council hopes the move will help replenish the population of the bird, known for its distinctive crescent-shaped silhouette in the sky.
